I LOVED this book! It is the thrilling and satisfying conclusion to the de Montforte Brothers series, which is one of my favorites. This book had me both cheering and crying throughout.Nobody writes sea captains and their adventures the way Danelle Harmon does! While I believe this book can be read as a stand-alone, it will be particularly meaningful for readers who have read previous books. What I especially love about this book is that it combines elements and characters from both of the author's exceptional de Montforte Brother series and Heroes of the Sea series in a natural and brilliant way. This book is truly the best of both worlds. You will love it if you like honorable men and women either by land or sea, and if you equally enjoy reading about British nobility and masters of the sea, prepare yourself for pure joy!
If you are familiar with the de Montforte Brothers, then you already know and love Lucien, the formidable Duke of Blackheath. In this book, he is back! (Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!) Better yet, his sister is a true blue de Montforte and comes into her own. Best of all, Lucien has met his equal in Captain Ruaidri O' Devir, who is a force himself.
The true genius and beauty of this story is how past beloved characters make appearances that bring reader joy and satisfaction without detracting from the current story or leading man and lady. It is truly well-plotted and all of the characters have a meaningful contribution to the story. Also, the story is thrilling with a meaningful storyline and characters to cheer for and fall in love with.
I highly recommend this book as well as the previous de Montforte Brothers books and Heroes of the Sea books!

The Wayward one is the 5th book in Danelle Harmon's The De Montforte Brothers series.
Lady Nerissa de Montforte is the younger sister of the Duke of Blackheath. The sheltered beauty has just suffered the lost of her betrothal. Her life changes forever one night as she accompanies her brother Lord Andrew to his demonstration.
Captain Ruaidri O'Devir is an Irish sea captain in America's Navy. When John Adams himself hand picks him to go to Britain and get the weapon being demonstrated by Lord Andrew.
Lady Nerissa finally finds a man worthy of her and not intimated by her brothers.
Beautiful ending to a 5 star series.
I am writing this review after reading the whole series. Each one of the novels is featured around one of the five siblings. This one is the one about the youngest and the only girl in the family. Lady Nerissa. Out of all the novels, this is my favorite. It is about adventure,mystery, finding love, running from the enemy on both sides, and the outcome.
It is well written and touching! I can't help but love Captain Ruaidri O"Devir and how he is characterized and how the author portrays him in the novel.
This story also show in her writing the difference in classes and how they live and portray each other.
Love endures in the end not only family but friendship and understanding!
I loved it! It is a great series however there is sexual content in it and if you don't have an open mind, just saying!
The Wayward one is the conclusion to The de Montforte Brothers series. This well-written book will keep you entertained from the beginning to end. The story is full of everything you come to expect in her romance books – love, lust, frustration and a happy ending full of love. Danelle Harmon does a splendid job of weaving romance with lots of excitement and intrigue. I know when I see her name on a book that I will be entertained and will not be able to put the book down.
I am sad to see this great series concluding however, I know Danelle will come up with another great book and/or series that I will enjoy just as much. She is one of the best historical romance writers that I have read.
Danelle Harmon is one of my top favorite authors that I have been reading for many years now. D. Harmon is an extremely talented author that writes remarkable stories that captivate you and will have you not wanting to put the book down. Definitely an author that you will want to have on your go-to list. If you enjoy reading a fun and passionate romance, then you definitely want to give this book (and series) a read.
Lady Nerissa de Montforte has been treated as if she was a doll made of china by her older brothers. A fact, that when she was younger, was appreciated; but not that she’s a woman she chafes at being coddled. She yearns for adventure. In London attending a demonstration with her brother, Andrew “The Defiant One”, she may get more than she bargained for.
Ruaidri O’Devir, Irish Captain for the American Continental Navy, has no love for anyone or anything English; only exception – his brother-in-law, an officer in the Royal Navy. Learning of a demonstration of a new weapon of war to be held at his brother-in-law’s home, Ruaidri makes his way to London where he plays the role of a drunken Irish rogue while waiting for an opportunity to steal away the invention and inventor. An opportunity arrives but not in the form he expected.
Once Ruaidri makes his escape from London with his hostage he soon wonders if he made the right decision in kidnapping a spoiled English lady. When Nerissa learns her fate she is quick to taunt the Irishman with his fate when her brother’s, specifically Lucien – The Duke of Blackwell –“The Wicked One”, catch up with him.
What unfolds is a heart racing sail across the ocean filled with witty banter, correcting misconceptions, and adventure. Can a lowly Irishman, who has a hatred for all things English, fall in love with an English society lady? Will an English society lady risk all for a lowly Irishman? Add that all together then top it off with the ire of the De Montforte brothers and you have a 5 star tale.
Ms. Harmon writes a delightful tale that can be read as a stand-alone novel that hosts brief appearances by “The Wild One”, and “The Beloved One” and significant appearances by “The Wicked One” and “The Defiant One”.
